As Lake Forest was first developed in 1857, the planners laid roads that would provide limited access to the city in an effort to prevent outside traffic and isolate the tranquil settlement from neighboring areas. Though the town is considerably more accessible today, there are parts that remains relatively secluded. It is one of the most scenic, historical, and architecturally significant suburbs of Chicago. One of Lake Forest’s most notable features is its virgin prairies and nature preserves and 12 miles of walking trails. Ryan Restorations is unique for your Lake Forest roofing needs because we have specialized in the historic restoration of slate roofing, tile roofing and copper roofing systems since 1999. We also fabricate a wide range of architectural copper ornaments, including finials, dormers, vents, crestings and other decorative roofing elements for historical restoration projects.
The size, complexity combined with the historical nature of many Lake Forest homes is reason to consider working with us. For example, the image below is a New Roof for a Mansion. Yes, it was already a big job and the size was approximately 60 squares highly detailed. But this is not an ordinary big roof, but rather a Historically Correct Roof for a mansion. During some periods in the history of architecture, the roof imparts much of the architectural character. It defines the style and contributes to the building’s aesthetics. There are some rather interesting topics about this unusual design and we encourage you to review more of this new historic roof here.
Our first job was placing a New Slate and Copper Roof at The Historic Stout House, located in nearby Dubuque Iowa. It is a highly detailed roof with many different angles. Everything including making and placing the Copper Finial on the turret allowed us to show our true potential as a specialty roofer.
Next we introduce you to some of the intricate details we accomplish when we will work on your Lake Forest roof. One challenge for our specialty is problem-solving skills. We have to appear like a detective trying to find missing pieces. Configurations of these roofs are sometimes complex and it can be a guessing game. So come along with the team of Ryan Restorations to enjoy what goes on when we come to install your new Lake Forest Roof.
