Ryan Restorations is unique because we have specialized in the historic restoration of slate roofing, tile roofing, and copper roofing systems since 1999. We also fabricate a wide range of architectural copper ornaments, including finials, dormers, vents, crestings, and other decorative roofing elements for historical restoration projects.
We recently put on a New Roof for a beautiful home in the historic district of Oak Park, IL. Let’s show you some of the intricate details of this project. One challenge for our specialty is problem-solving skills. We have to appear like a detective trying to find missing pieces. Configurations of these roofs are complex and it can be a guessing game.
During some periods in the history of architecture, the roof imparts much of the architectural character. It defines the style and contributes to the building’s aesthetics.
In this particular situation, we were working on the 1896 Simpson Dunlop Estates. This home was designed by the famous architect E. E. Roberts. This house is best labeled as a Transitional Queen Anne Victorian with elements of new Prairie-style designs due to its style with sharp angles and clean lines.
Now we rise above to get a better look at the craftsmanship of your local historic roofing specialist. We are looking west at the house. Of course, it is impossible to miss the custom copper gutters and snow aprons. An apron is an original feature that Ryan Restorations replicated. This illustrates how extremely steep the roofs are.
As we rotate facing south west, we now have a clear vision of the copper valleys and a better view of the snow guards.
The snow guards are in complete view. The color of all the copper you see will slowly change over a period of a year to a penny brown. The references made to “Patina” is the protective coating the copper develops over time. Rising higher allows you to still see the Inset Window on the left of the first set of snow guards.
We rotate downward to continue showing the slate roofing, copper valleys and gutters, the snow guards and another inset window too. The slate is Vermont Black with striations.
Now we get closer to show off the Copper Flashing for this Oak Park Slate Roof.
Rising higher and then hovering above allows us to again amplify the steepness (59 Degree) of the roof in addition to the pure beauty of the home.
And now we leave you with a beautiful view of this beautiful new Oak Park Victorian Home with new Slate and Copper Roof.
All of the above is the work done by Ryan Restorations. You will know you are in the most experienced hands when you see our trucks in front of your residence. Contact Ryan Restorations to discuss your roof needs including slate roofing, tile roofing, and copper roofing.
